Torrance Vision Correction Procedures

Today's life-changing procedures make it possible to improve your vision to 20/20—or better.

EVO ICL™ (Implantable Collamer Lens)

EVO ICL™ (Implantable Collamer Lens) surgery involves putting an artificial lens in the eye. Unlike RLE, the natural lens is not removed, and the artificial lens is placed between the natural lens and the iris.

EVO ICL™ can correct nearsightedness and astigmatism. It is sometimes referred to as an implantable contact lens.

Cataract Surgery

Cataract surgery is a very common and medically necessary procedure to remove and replace the eye’s natural lens when the vision has been clouded by a cataract. We offer laser-assisted cataract surgery and lifestyle lenses as options for our patients.

Other Procedures

Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE)

Refractive lens exchange (RLE), is when a clear lens is implanted to replace your eye’s natural lens to correct your vision.

This procedure is often used for pre-cataract patients, as a preventative vision correction solution. Refractive lens exchange (RLE) can also correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

Brow Lift

A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift or browplasty, is a surgical procedure performed to rejuvenate the appearance of the forehead, eyebrows, and upper eyelids by raising the eyebrows and reducing the appearance of wrinkles, lines, and sagging skin in the forehead region.

Brow lift surgery can effectively address a variety of concerns, including drooping eyebrows, forehead furrows, frown lines, and hooding of the upper eyelids. By restoring a more youthful and refreshed appearance to the upper face, a brow lift can help improve self-confidence and overall facial harmony.

As with any surgical procedure, there are potential risks and complications associated with brow lift surgery, including temporary numbness, swelling, bruising, and scarring. However, when performed by a skilled and experienced surgeon, brow lift surgery can achieve natural-looking results and provide long-lasting facial rejuvenation.

Facial Rejuvination

Facial rejuvenation refers to a broad range of cosmetic procedures and treatments aimed at restoring a more youthful appearance to the face by addressing signs of aging, sun damage, and other aesthetic concerns. These procedures can target various areas of the face, including the skin, underlying tissues, and facial contours, to improve skin texture, tone, and overall facial harmony.

Facial rejuvenation techniques may include both surgical and non-surgical approaches.

It’s essential for individuals considering facial rejuvenation procedures to consult with a qualified and experienced cosmetic surgeon or dermatologist to determine the most appropriate treatment plan based on their specific needs, preferences, and medical history. With the guidance of a skilled professional, patients can achieve natural-looking results and enjoy a revitalized and more youthful appearance.

Fillers & Botox

Botox and dermal fillers are injectables that can relax or fill in fine lines and wrinkles. Fillers and Botox are popular cosmetic treatments used to address various signs of aging and enhance facial aesthetics. They are commonly sought after for several reasons:

1. Wrinkle reduction: Both fillers and Botox are effective in reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the face. Botox works by temporarily relaxing the muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkles, such as frown lines and crow’s feet, while fillers add volume to areas with static wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines.

2. Facial volume restoration: As people age, they tend to lose facial volume due to a decrease in collagen and fat in the skin. Fillers, which are typically made of hyaluronic acid or other biocompatible materials, can restore volume to areas that have become hollow or sunken over time, such as the cheeks, temples, and under-eye area.

3. Non-surgical facial rejuvenation: Fillers and Botox offer non-surgical alternatives to traditional facelift surgery. These treatments can help rejuvenate the face by addressing signs of aging, such as wrinkles, volume loss, and sagging skin, without the need for incisions, anesthesia, or downtime associated with surgery.

4. Quick and convenient: Fillers and Botox treatments are typically quick and convenient, often taking less than an hour to perform. Patients can typically resume their normal activities immediately after treatment, making them ideal options for individuals with busy lifestyles.

5. Customizable results: Fillers and Botox treatments can be customized to address each patient’s specific concerns and aesthetic goals. A skilled injector can tailor the treatment plan to achieve natural-looking results that enhance the patient’s unique facial features and proportions.

Overall, fillers and Botox are versatile cosmetic treatments that offer effective solutions for reducing wrinkles, restoring facial volume, and achieving a more youthful and refreshed appearance without the need for surgery.

Cataract Surgery with iStent

The iStent procedure is performed during the final stages of cataract surgery. This procedure is used to reduce intraocular pressure for patients with open-angle glaucoma.

Cataract surgery with iStent offers several advantages for patients with cataracts. iStent insertion is performed during the same procedure as cataract surgery, making it a minimally invasive option for patients. This means fewer incisions and less trauma to the eye, resulting in faster recovery times and reduced risk of complications compared to separate surgeries.

iStent is a tiny implant that is inserted during cataract surgery. It helps to reduce intraocular pressure (IOP) by improving the outflow of aqueous humor from the eye’s drainage system. By addressing both cataracts and glaucoma simultaneously, patients can potentially reduce their dependence on glaucoma medications and achieve better overall visual and ocular health outcomes.

Femtosecond Lasers (LenSx/Ziemer)

Femtosecond lasers, such as the LenSx and Ziemer systems, are advanced surgical tools used in various ophthalmic procedures, including cataract surgery and corneal surgery. These lasers utilize ultrafast pulses of light, measured in femtoseconds (one quadrillionth of a second), to precisely create incisions and perform tissue manipulation with exceptional accuracy and precision.

In cataract surgery, femtosecond lasers offer several advantages over traditional manual techniques. They can create precise incisions in the cornea, as well as capsulotomies (openings in the lens capsule) with micron-level precision. This level of accuracy can improve the alignment of intraocular lens implants and enhance visual outcomes following surgery. Additionally, femtosecond lasers can soften the cataract, making it easier to remove and potentially reducing the amount of ultrasound energy needed during the procedure, which can be beneficial for patients with certain risk factors, such as thin corneas or dense cataracts.

In corneal surgery, femtosecond lasers are used in procedures such as LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) and corneal transplantation. During LASIK, the laser is used to create a precise flap in the cornea, allowing for the reshaping of the underlying tissue to correct refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. In corneal transplantation, the laser can be used to create precise incisions in the donor cornea and recipient eye, facilitating better wound healing and visual outcomes.

Overall, femtosecond lasers represent a significant advancement in ophthalmic surgery, offering surgeons greater precision, safety, and predictability in the treatment of various eye conditions. They have revolutionized cataract surgery and corneal surgery, allowing for customized treatment approaches tailored to each patient’s unique anatomy and visual needs.

Clear Lens Exchange (CLE)

CLE is typically performed on patients who are not suitable candidates for procedures like LASIK or PRK due to factors such as thin corneas, high refractive errors, or presbyopia. It can also be a preferred option for individuals over the age of 40 who are experiencing presbyopia and want to reduce their dependence on reading glasses or bifocals.

Pterygium Repair

Pterygium repair is a surgical procedure performed to remove a pterygium—a growth of tissue on the conjunctiva (the clear membrane covering the white part of the eye) that may extend onto the cornea. Pterygiums are often associated with exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light, dry and dusty environments, and other environmental factors.

SmartLipo

SmartLipo is a procedure that utilizes medical-grade lasers to create beams of light that are strong enough to rupture fat cells and then melt the fat.

Upper and Lower Blepharoplasty

Upper and lower blepharoplasty are surgical procedures aimed at rejuvenating the appearance of the eyelids by removing excess skin, fat, and muscle tissue.

Upper blepharoplasty, also known as upper eyelid surgery, focuses on addressing drooping or sagging skin in the upper eyelids. During the procedure, the surgeon makes incisions along the natural creases of the upper eyelids to access the underlying tissues. Excess skin, muscle, and sometimes fat are removed, and the remaining tissues are carefully repositioned and tightened to create a smoother, more youthful eyelid contour. Upper blepharoplasty can help improve the appearance of heavy or hooded eyelids, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, and restore a more refreshed and alert appearance to the eyes.

Lower blepharoplasty, or lower eyelid surgery, targets puffiness, bags, and wrinkles in the lower eyelids. The surgeon may make incisions just below the lower lash line or on the inside of the lower eyelid (transconjunctival approach) to access the underlying tissues. Excess fat, muscle, and skin are removed or repositioned to reduce the appearance of under-eye bags and create a smoother, more youthful lower eyelid contour. Lower blepharoplasty can help improve the appearance of tired-looking eyes, reduce puffiness and dark circles, and restore a more youthful and refreshed appearance to the lower eyelids.

Both upper and lower blepharoplasty are typically performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the patient’s preferences and the extent of the procedure. Recovery time varies but generally involves some swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort, which can be managed with pain medication and cold compresses. Patients are typically advised to avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting during the initial stages of recovery and to follow their surgeon’s post-operative instructions carefully to ensure optimal healing and results.
