Cataract Surgery with Premium Intraocular Lenses

Cataracts cause the lens of your eye to become cloudy, leading to blurred vision, difficulty seeing at night, and sensitivity to light. With cataract surgery, you can replace the affected lens with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL) to restore your vision.

Schedule an appointment at our Mission Viejo clinic to discuss cataract surgery with one of our specialists, and choose the right IOL for your vision needs.

LASIK surgery for Refractive Eye Errors in Mission Viejo

LASIK is a laser eye surgery that corrects common vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The procedure involves reshaping the cornea, the clear front part of the eye, to allow light to focus properly on the retina.

LASIK improves vision clarity and reduces or eliminates the need for glasses or contact lenses. If you are interested in corrective LASIK surgery, schedule an appointment at our Mission Viejo clinic to get started.

We also offer other laser surgeries for patients who might not be a good fit for LASIK, or who would rather explore other surgical approaches.

Alternatives to LASIK alternatives

SMILE Eye Surgery is ideal for patients with dry eyes, providing similar results to traditional LASIK. Patients with thin corneas can opt for PRK surgery, which preserves cornea integrity while correcting your vision.

If you prefer a non-permanent approach, consider EVO ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens), which is a suitable alternative for those with myopia (nearsightedness) and astigmatism. It has a shorter recovery time, high success rates and an undetectable look.

EVO ICL™ (Implantable Collamer Lens)

EVO ICL™ (Implantable Collamer Lens) surgery involves putting an artificial lens in the eye. Unlike RLE, the natural lens is not removed, and the artificial lens is placed between the natural lens and the iris.

EVO ICL™ can correct nearsightedness and astigmatism. It is sometimes referred to as an implantable contact lens.

Contoura® Vision LASIK

Contoura® Vision LASIK?

Contoura® Vision LASIK is an advanced form of LASIK eye surgery that utilizes topography-guided technology to tailor the laser treatment to the unique characteristics of an individual’s cornea. This technology aims to provide a more personalized and precise correction of refractive errors, including nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Contoura® Vision creates a highly precise and accurate map of a patient’s eyes measuring up to 22,000 unique elevation points on each eye.

Key features of Contoura® Vision LASIK include:

1. Topography-Guided Treatment:
– Contoura® Vision LASIK utilizes detailed corneal mapping or corneal topography to create a highly customized treatment plan. This map captures thousands of data points on the cornea, allowing for a more precise analysis of its shape and irregularities.

2. Personalized Correction:
– The topography-guided technology enables the laser to precisely reshape the cornea based on the unique imperfections detected in the corneal map. This personalized approach aims to address higher-order aberrations, improving not only traditional refractive errors but also the overall quality of vision.

3. Reduced Glare and Halos:
– Contoura® Vision LASIK is designed to reduce the occurrence of visual disturbances such as glare and halos, which can be associated with certain refractive errors. The customized treatment may result in improved night vision and reduced sensitivity to light.

4. Potential for Better Visual Outcomes:
– The goal of Contoura® Vision LASIK is to achieve superior visual outcomes by optimizing the correction based on the individual characteristics of the patient’s cornea.

It’s important to note that the availability of Contoura® Vision LASIK may vary, and not all LASIK centers offer this specific technology. If you are considering LASIK surgery and are interested in Contoura® Vision LASIK, it’s recommended to consult with an experienced refractive surgeon or LASIK eye doctor who can assess your candidacy and discuss the available options for personalized laser vision correction.

Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE)

Refractive lens exchange (RLE), is when a clear lens is implanted to replace your eye’s natural lens to correct your vision.

This procedure is often used for pre-cataract patients, as a preventative vision correction solution. Refractive lens exchange (RLE) can also correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

Argon Laser Treatments

Argon Laser Trabeculoplasty (ALT) is the most common surgery performed for open-angle glaucoma. ALT helps fluids drain from the eye, reducing intra-ocular pressure that can cause damage to the optic nerve and loss of vision.

Laser Iridotomy

Laser iridotomy is used in the treatment of acute angle-closure glaucoma. A doctor uses a laser to cut open a small hole in the iris, allowing built-up intraocular fluid to drain out and restore normal pressure levels to the eye.

Eye Stent or Hydrus

Hydrus is a micro-stent. It is placed in the eye as a spacer for your natural fluid drainage channels.

Cornea Transplantation

When irreversible damage to the cornea is caused, from either infection or trauma, corneal transplant or Keratoplasty may be the ideal option.

Canaloplasty

Canaloplasty is a surgery for the reduction of intraocular pressure in patients with glaucoma.

Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT)

If eye drops and oral medications are not successfully lowering the eye pressure in patients with glaucoma, a doctor might discuss selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) with the patient. This can also be used as the first treatment for glaucoma.

Chalazion Surgery

Chalazion surgery, also known as chalazion excision or chalazion removal, is a surgical procedure performed to treat a chalazion—a small, non-infectious bump or cyst that develops on the eyelid.

Chalazion surgery is highly effective in resolving the symptoms associated with a chalazion, such as swelling, redness, and tenderness.

Entropion/Ectropion

Entropion and ectropion are both eyelid conditions that involve the abnormal positioning of the eyelid margin, leading to irritation, discomfort, and in some cases, vision problems.

1. Entropion: Entropion occurs when the eyelid margin turns inward, causing the eyelashes and skin to rub against the cornea and conjunctiva (the clear membrane covering the white part of the eye). This can lead to symptoms such as eye redness, irritation, tearing, and blurred vision. Entropion is commonly caused by age-related changes to the eyelid tissues, scarring from injury or surgery, or underlying conditions such as trachoma or Bell’s palsy.

2. Ectropion: Ectropion occurs when the eyelid margin turns outward, exposing the inner surface of the eyelid and the conjunctiva to the environment. This can lead to symptoms such as eye dryness, irritation, tearing, and sensitivity to light. Ectropion may also cause cosmetic concerns, as the lower eyelid may appear droopy or sagging. Ectropion is commonly caused by age-related weakening of the eyelid tissues, scarring from injury or surgery, or conditions such as facial nerve palsy or skin disorders.

Both entropion and ectropion can be treated with surgical correction to reposition the eyelid margin and restore normal eyelid function. The specific treatment approach will depend on the underlying cause of the condition, the severity of symptoms, and other factors such as the patient’s overall health and preferences. It is essential for individuals experiencing symptoms of entropion or ectropion to consult with an ophthalmologist or oculoplastic surgeon for evaluation and appropriate management.
