Jonathan Young
M.D., Ph.D
Dr. Young, a Portland native, comes to us highly recommended by his residency and fellowship directors. He just finished his glaucoma fellowship at the prestigious Stein Eye Institute at UCLA. Prior to that he completed residency training at Casey Eye, Medical School at UCLA, and undergraduate at Reed College.

Through his training he has received many academic and research awards and published several articles in journals such as Science and Journal of Glaucoma. In addition to these academic awards, he was known to be appreciated by the staff and patients where he worked.
While he has received a number of academic awards through his career, he strives to develop a personal connection with his patients. “I went into Ophthalmology because it gives me great satisfaction to help people maintain their quality of life and function.”
His clinical interests include optimizing surgical glaucoma outcomes and fellowship teaching. He actively participates in coordinating clinical research. He has published in several journals including those in Science and Journal of Glaucoma.
Dr. Young also offers refractive lens exchange (RLE) in Portland for patients seeking an alternative to LASIK or those with age-related vision changes such as presbyopia. RLE can reduce dependence on glasses or contact lenses by replacing the eye’s natural lens with a premium intraocular lens tailored to each patient’s visual needs. Dr. Young is committed to helping patients achieve clear, long-lasting vision with this advanced surgical option.
Away from medicine, Dr. Young is a dedicated husband and father to a young daughter. He enjoys recreational sports such as Ultimate Frisbee, snowboarding, and tennis.
