More About the Surgeon

Dr. Burns received his Bachelor of Science in Biology degree and Medical Degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia, Missouri, both with cum laude honors.

Practicing in San Antonio for over 19 years, Dr. Burns moved to the area after completing his medical residency in Galveston. He grew up in Sedalia, Missouri. As a junior in college, he participated in biomedical research program in Galveston, and fell in love with the town. As a medical student he did a clinical rotation at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, and also completed his ophthalmology residency there.

He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Texas Medical Association, and Bexar County Medical Society. He received the Texas Super Doctors award 2013 – 2017.

“I felt that I could have a profound impact on the quality of people’s lives by helping them with their vision, “says Dr. Burns when asked about what lead him to practice ophthalmology. In his spare time, Dr. Burns enjoys exercising, surf fishing, skiing and diving.
